Awakening Lion Hero is a new Chinese Toku throwing its hat into the ring.

Apparently this is the original creation of the indie director behind Armor Hero VS Blazing Teens, and the recent Kabutack special! 

This is a concept trailer, and not necessarily indicative of the final product (likely they're seeking further funding/contracts before ramping up to full production).

This is honestly a super cool trailer and I'm so excited for the future of this IP!

TRANSLATION EXPLANATION

There's been a bit of discussion about the title of this series "醒狮侠" ("Xing Shi Xia") and how it should be translated to English.

As such the KAIJIA team has decided to provide a translation explainer for why we've opted for the name "Awakening Lion Hero"

This is going to be a very detailed explanation, so without further ado let's get into the details.

The overall medium of lion dancing itself is simply called lion dance (舞狮 "Wu Shi"). Meanwhile the term awakening lion (醒狮 "Xing Shi") refers more specifically to lion dance from Southern China; where the mascots look more cartoony and often get more playful with the audience.

For those interested, this Southern style is also referred to as 南狮 ("Nan Shi", lt."Southern Lion").

The other variant is called 北狮 ("Bei Shi", lit. "Northern Lion"), whose costumes more resemble an actual lion, featuring more ferocious faces, and a visible mane.

The title of the series uses the specific characters for awakening lion ("醒狮", "Xing Shi") combined with a character meaning heroic person ("侠", "Xia"), to create the title "醒狮侠", thus our decision to translate it as "Awakening Lion Hero".

[Bonus Info: Armor Hero fans may recognize "侠" ("Xia") as the suffix used for the original lineup of Armor Heroes! Such as "炎龙侠" (Yán Lóng Xiá) which DoReMii fansub translated as "Fire Dragon Hero" and the Dub translated as "Fire Dragon Man"]

Armor Hero Star Ray - Episode 01 Part 1

For people who have been keeping an eye on this show since the first leaks, you know this day is about a full year in the making! So, why is this 13 minutes long? ...Yup! Seriously though, to accomadte for the TV release it was decided to split the initial 18 episodes into 36 half-length episodes so stations could air 4 shows in one block. An odd choice, but it is the choice that was made... ( EDIT: Since then the initial 24 minute cut of the show has been released so we'll be switching over to those) In any case...
